The city of Buda (population 2400) near Austin, changed their local option laws in 1999. In 2001, the City of Buda grew from $450,000 in sales tax revenue to over $978,000. Buda collected more sales tax revenue in 2001 than in 1999 and 2000 - combined.
Frisco, Texas
The City of Frisco, north of Dallas, overwhelmingly voted to allow beer and wine sales over a year ago. While their population grew 90%, the Texas Comptrollers' office reports that thier sales tax revenue increased by over 154% since changing the law.
Grocers in Frisco, report that for every $1 in beer and wine sales, they see an additional $3 in associated sales. Woodway, Texas
Residents passed both propositions with 78 percent of the vote. Proposition 1, which provides for the sales of beer and wine, but not liquor for off-premise consumption, passed 1,129 votes to 309. Proposition 2, which will allow restaurants to sell mixed beverages, passed 1,123 to 316.
